Resetting a forgotten password on NEWMB (How To)

It seems that sometimes when I receive an email request to help someone recover a forgotten password, and I point them to the "Forgotten Password" utility that's built into the forum, I receive a "That didn't work" email not too long thereafter. I imagine that most users don't have a problem going through the process, but I've put together the following guide to assist those that need it. I will be pointing those who inquire about resetting their password to this post from now on. I can't look your password up, so if you forget it, you'll need to reset it. Here we go:

1. From the main NEWMB forum interface, click the Log In link from the upper right corner of the page.

2. On the login page, click the "I forgot my password" link that's shown directly below the login boxes.

3. On the "Password forgotten" page, enter the email address associated with the NEWMB account you wish to reset the password of. IMPORTANT: It's clear that some of you have several NEWMB accounts, associated with different email addresses. I, nor the message board software, can read your mind and immediately know which account you really want to recover, so be sure to use the appropriate email address in this step. If you have no idea what that email address is, feel free to contact me and I will try to help identify that for you. Once you enter your email address and click OK, you should see the confirmation "The E-mail has been sent". Go check your email.

4. You're checking the email address associated with your NEWMB account now - usually within a few minutes from when you initiated the request, you will receive the initial password reset request, which will look something like this:

Open/read that message, and you will see something like this:

Click on the link provided, which should automatically load in your web browser and result in the following message:

5. You're once again checking the email address associated with your NEWMB account now, this time to look for the new password email (confirmation) that was sent to you. Again, it may take a few minutes from when you clicked the link in the previous email for this to show up - be patient. The email subject will look something like this:

Open/read that message, and you will see something like this:

Click on the link provided, which should automatically load in your web browser and log you on to NEWMB using your new password. You will know that you are logged in when you see your username listed in the upper right corner of the webpage:

At this point, you're done. Either write your new passsword down, or keep that last email that you received from NEWMB which contains your username & password, or print that email out. Alternatively, at this point you can immediately go into your user account area and change your password to something more to your preference - here's how you accomplish that:

1. While still logged into NEWMB, click on your username from the top right corner of the page:

2. On the "Edit Profile" page that you're on, click the "change password" link:

3. Enter your old (current) password in the first box, then type the new password you want to establish in both of the following boxes and click the OK button:

4. You should receive the following message at the top of the Edit Profile page upon completion of the password change:

If you receive an ERROR message, you either entered your old password incorrectly or the new password did not match in both boxes - try again.

And that should be it.
