Have a question about Lent (General Discussion)

The 40 days of Lent represent the 40 days Jesus fasted in the wilderness before he began his public ministry. It does not include Sundays. It is a manmade institution and is no where endorsed in the Bible. Fasting in general is mentioned in the Bible under other circumstances. There are records dating to about 375 AD that reference 'Lent'. The Catholic church and a number of Protestant churches observe lent. My husband, a staunch Catholic that recited the Rosary and Lords Prayer every night when he was a child, always gave up 'watermelon and swimming' during Lent.
