Any one have a quick and easy camping food ideas?

i love the idea of the omelet in a bag- however
i am very skeptical about consuming the melted plastic!lol
and i guess ziploc has recommend against this.
( i heard the freezer bags may work better- as there are stronger and maybe have a less chance of melting.

Has anyone ever tried to make this in just a coffee cup on the fire?

on a separate note- i found an older dutch oven kettle- looks like it needs to be seasoned- can this be done on older pots? does it still help?

Thanks for all and any help!

And have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Yes, you can re-season old cast iron. There are some really good websites that can explain exactly how to do it.

Once seasoned, don't scratch it when washing. If seasoned right, nothing should stick. Trick is, once washing is done, heat it on the stove till the water dries off, not long, then put a couple of drops of vegetable oil in and coat it using a paper towel and let it cool. Do that every time. As it cools, it draws the oil into the cavities you can't actually see.

I got one frying pan, a very old one completely rusty and cruddy. Couldn't clean it no way. So I used a random orbital air sander and many sheets of sandpaper and got down to the bare metal. Seasoned it and eggs just float when frying.

we camp a lot with our horses.so, much of our cargo space is taken up by horse stuff! lol! we cook almost everything in cast iron pudgy pie irons. we make eggs(then toast our bread, meat and cheese) and make egg sandwiches. we have made pancakes in them. I have cooked hash browns in them. pizza pudgy pies are great as are ham and cheese sandwiches. we have put potatoes, hot dogs(cut up) broccoli and cheese in foil and cooked that in the coals too. I guess this would not be too practical if cooking for a large group but if everyone is able to man their own iron its fine! lol! plus everyone can make it how they like it.

My dad would clean cast iron by soaking it in whey from a cheese factory for a couple of days. After it's clean you need to season it well and it will be like new! I did this with an old rusty griddle I found in our attic. We used it for years after the overhall to make pancakes on the campfire.
I made breakfast pizza on the grill when our kids were young. Spread 1 can of cresent rolls on the bottom of a jelly roll pan being careful to seal all the seams. Spread pizza sauce on the crust then add whatever you like. Ham, sausage, onions, peppers etc. Top it with mozzerella cheese then pour 5 eggs beaten with 1/3 cup of milk. Cover with foil and bake on tri-pod over campfire. Watch the bottom so it doesn't burn. It's done when the eggs are set. I also used frozen hash browns with this recipe which was really good too.
