Might be a good idea to fill some jugs with water and stock up on some dried foods. Ice storm on the way and the power could go out for some. Probably won't be too big of a storm, but think for a minute, what would you do if the power was out for a week or more?

After several very frustrating blackouts we actually had a natural gas whole-house generator installed. When you're on well/septic system the loss of electricity can be very 'frustrating'.

Ironically, since we put had the generator installed there hasn't been a single blackout longer than just a few minutes. Huh.

I installed a 7500 watt LP generator and a manual transfer switch. I still keep about 5 gallons of drinking and cooking water handy. Most of the time the power is only out for an hour or two.

I installed a 7000 watt natural gas Generac and am very satisfied with it. Just last fall we had a 30 hour outage. Every Saturday it starts up at 8 am and runs for 12 minutes. I have the battery in our heated garage with a volt meter on it. And an hour meter that records the time that it runs. It has run 125 hours.

When I was working in Oklahoma we had an ice storm. Areas in Tulsa were without power for over a month.
