In search of a good antenna (General Discussion)

Looking for a good antenna that I can mount in my attic. Got rid of the dish just too expensive especially when you only watch about 10 of the channels. Had an antenna in my garage but just not cutting it then got one of those ones from the infomercials and still hit and miss. Bought one that was suppose to be 60 mile range but only get half the channels and ones I do get go in an out depends where you sit or walk around the room. I live halfway between Oconto and Lena. So any one in the north woods that get all channels I would like to know what you have. I was looking at getting a 200 mile range one in hopes it helps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Do you have a metal roof on your house, if you do that will affect your reception when putting your antenna in the attic. A 60 mile range antenna will put you close to the limit of reach seeing most transmitting towers are between Depere and Appleton area.

Anything mounted in your attic no matter what you pay for it or how much "range" it has will never bring in all of the channels, especially fox11.

You HAVE to mount it as high as you can on top of your roof. I got this at radio shack in Oconto Falls. It works great!

I know someone who had problems with more than just one channel and they tried a lot of different antennas and still had the same problem. They got one of these, and just to test it out, stuck it on the railing of the deck and pointed it southeast. Just adding, there is a big metal garage about 30 feet southeast in a direct line with the signal. They got every channel with no more problems.

Today we purchased one of these antenna. After assembling it we just set it on our kitchen table and plugged it into our TV which was in a different room. The 14 channels have never come in well. We are happy to say they are coming in beautifully this afternoon. It has now been mounted on our deck. Our home is in the woods near Stiles and we now get 22 different channels. Very pleased so far.

Did you mount yours outside or inside? I'm in an apt. complex and cannot put an outdoor antenna up. I do get all of the channels with my Leaf Antenna with the amplifier, but everytime I walk past the antenna (I have it down low, out of sight), the sound cuts out for as long as it takes to walk past it, so I miss a word or two, but occasionally Fox and NBC get temperamental and either cut out or get a little shaky.

Will this work for 2 tvs in the apt.?

gg, Now that we've had the antenna for over a week we are finding that occasionally we do not get reception on the 32 channels. We mounted it on our deck and would possibly get even better reception if it was on a higher location. Also, if we'd change the direction that it is pointing (which wouldn't be hard) could improve reception but don't care to do that for different channels. It is quite large, approx. 2'x 3' so not sure if you'd like that inside an apartment? Overall we are satisfied with the antenna as it has improved our former reception. Hope this answers your questions.

Yes, it does, Corky. Thank you, and I'll just keep the Leaf antenna and quit moving furniture around so often and having to reconfigure the location for the antenna. :-) If I decided to keep the bedroom tv, I'll just buy another Leaf antenna with the amplifier and hope it works in the bedroom. If it doesn't, I'll just take it back, and sell the tv. Thanks for getting back to me.
