President Trump just said that we are loosing $1.46 for every package that Amazon sends. How can that be, I just sent a letter of seven pages in an envelope to Green Bay at a cost of $1.43 at the post office here in town. I always thought that the US postal service established the rates, not Amazon. What am I missing here?

If I recall, they made money when it cost 3¢ to mail a letter and 1¢ for a post card.

Probably fake figures, don't think a company could last that long unless they make some money. But then the govt. right now is going deeper in debt every day.

Look how many more people were sending mail back when it was 3 cents, and gasoline was much cheaper for the deliveries, Postal workers were paid much less, etc., etc.

Perhaps Amazon gets a better postal rate due to the amount of packages shipped. Look what the USPS charges the companies for the junk mail that fills our boxes. Why didn't they charge those companies MORE postage than us, since they can write off the postage on their taxes, for advertising. They'd be making billions again.

Yes.......a lot of companies get a cheaper rate due to volume.

I LOVE your suggestion for charging more for junk mail!!! I hate that stuff!

What I don't understand can a company over seas charge the pittance they do for many products including the shipping and then across the United states to it's destination and it's still cheaper than we can mail something originating and ending in the United states? We ordered something from China and it cost $25 for shipping. When we wanted to 'return' it, the return address was here in the USA and it would have cost us $25 just to go to the east coast, but still in the USA?

Because China subsidies every thing including postage.

Amazon has an incredible network of getting packages where they need to be. Most of the time, USPS does only the final delivery. Packages are most often delivered to the final facility at the USPS via Amazon private carrier. It's not a stretch of the imagination to believe that Amazon could operate a full scale delivery operation without the use of USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. Yes, they are that close. Trump should not piss Jeff Bezos off!

On a side note: the losses that are on the other reply are extremely misleading if not completely false. They are inclusive of unfunded retirement obligations and other obligations that have compounded through the years kicking the can down the road. USPS does make money on delivering packages for Amazon. Not a lot, but Trump is flat out wrong.

Amazon mostly ships FedX. so by not paying the post office for shipping that is why the loss. It isn't actually a loss, it just isn't a gain. Sometimes you have to interpret what the prez means not what he says. Amazon is to retail businesses what Japan was to the car and electronics industry, and what Sam Walton was to every small town in America.
Yes China subsidizes the shipping of the cheap crap hordes are buying from China through eBay and Amazon and Lilly etc. You get what you pay for and you further encourage their inhumanity. Children as young as 5 are shipped out to work or are handed to grandparents or the state temporarily so the parents can go where there is work for a couple of decades. A disgusting country that this country is allowing to do what they please. They make unsafe food and toys etc. Who care? Its cheap. Feh!
