By "when and what" I didn't know you were asking how fast.

Sorry about that, I didn’t have room in the title for the whole question. Back in the fifties, I use to lock up the station at 9 pm and buzz through Wrightstown and Oneida and never meet one car all the way to Wabeno in an hour and a half.

Now you can wiz through Green Bay at 70 mph. Forty thousand people die on our roads every year. Every day eleven teenagers die while texting, that’s thousands. But we protest all over the country against guns. We never should have closed our insane asylums.

In my opinion 70 is fine on super highways like 41 and 29 and 43; but on two lane roads 50 is fast enough. And on two lane roads, ”no left turns”, except where there is an extra lane at that corner.

A very short time ago we had a person killed up here while waiting to make a left turn. He was hit from behind and forced into the other lane.

Yes, and if you are not going at least 100 you better not be in the left lane. The Germans are the best drivers, they flash three times then change lanes. After they pass, three flashes then back in the lane. Here fifty % flash only on their way back in, instead of before.

I never drove that fast, but what I drove for the first time was a vehicle I was I had right now. 1947 Dodge pickup exactly like the one below.

My second car was a nice '47 Ford from Dick Tauber in Denmark for $100. My first new car was a '63 Chevrolet station wagon from Dick for $2,500. I still have the original bill of sale. I buy my wife a new car once every 55 years, I got her a Buick Envision.

I was 18, driving my boyfriends 1959 Pontiac Convertible on HWY 12 in Jackson County. He woke from his catnap to discover the girlfriend he was teaching to drive was doing about 120. I can't remember the exact speed. He talked me down and had me pull over, and got behind the wheel. After we were married a good while he hired a professional driving instructor to teach me. God sure has worked at saving me I can tell you.
